Fiber laser birth and brief development
To manufacture fiber optics, we first make a silica cynlinder called preshape which has the same characteristics as the fiber wanted (same proportions, geometryand chemical composition of the core and sheaths). The preshape is then stretched on a long distance until obtaining the wanted fiber diameter.
To get a doper fiber, all one has to do is incorporating dopping ions, in the desired proportions, during the preshape manufacturing.
