Laser functioning and generalities
Continuous and impulsionnal lasers
Fiber laser birth and brief development
A fiber optic laser has all the advantages of fiber optics: flexibility, low production cost, reduced size. Also, its spectral width is very thin, which is necessary in modern telecommunications. On the other hand, fiber optics are preferably usable only in infrared light, because it is for these wavelength that silica, the fiber material, is the most transparent.
